This is a research-based review. It's built from Notion's official pricing and product pages plus public reporting — not from a hands-on test in our own workspace. Where something is widely reported rather than confirmed by us, we say so. If we test Notion AI directly later, we'll update this and relabel it.
Notion AI is the layer of AI features built into Notion — the all-in-one workspace for notes, docs, databases, and projects. In 2026 it covers the basics (writing, summarising, translating) plus a heavier set: AI Agents (launched September 2025), Ask Notion (a workspace-wide query that can reach into Google Drive and Slack), and as of February 2026's Notion 3.3, Custom Agents — letting teams build their own AI workflows on top of their data.
Notion AI at a glance
The 2026 plan ladder
The structural change to know: the old $10 standalone Notion AI add-on was retired in May 2025. AI Agents and Ask Notion now require Business at $20/user/month (annual). Basic AI writing — drafting, summarising, translating — is still available on Plus, but the powerful automation and workspace-wide query features are gated to Business.
AI Agents, Ask Notion & Custom Agents
The headline 2025/2026 additions are the agentic features:
AI Agents (Sept 2025) act on your workspace — running multi-step tasks across pages, databases, and integrations rather than just generating text. Ask Notion queries your entire workspace and answers from it; on Business it reaches across connected sources like Google Drive and Slack, which is where it earns its keep for teams whose work isn't all in Notion. Custom Agents, added in Notion 3.3 (Feb 2026), let teams build specialised AI workflows on top of their own data. Custom Agents bill at $10 per 1,000 Notion credits as of May 2026, so heavy automation has a metered component on top of the per-seat fee.
Notion AI's pricing has changed direction more than once: a separate $10 add-on, then bundled into Business, then Custom Agents introduced metered credit billing in 2026. The headline plan price isn't the whole story for teams running heavy automation. Check notion.com/pricing directly and look at the Custom Agents credit cost if you plan to lean on agents.

Pros & cons
Who should use Notion AI?
Use it if your team already lives in Notion. The win isn't the writing — it's that the AI has your workspace and (on Business) your connected apps in context, so Ask Notion answers from your real material and AI Agents act on it. For teams of 3–25 on Business, this earns its place.
Look elsewhere if you're a solo user wanting general AI writing — you'll get more depth out of ChatGPT or Claude at the same $20. Notion AI's value depends on having a real Notion workspace for it to work over.
8.0/10. The right answer for teams already on Notion, especially at Business where AI Agents and Ask Notion start to pay for themselves. Less compelling standalone — for pure writing or thinking, a dedicated assistant gives you more for the same $20.
